Origin of the band

Twenty-five years ago, five guys got together to form a Thursday night club, not for poker but for something close to their hearts. They convened every Thursday night as a labor of love. The idea was to play the old tunes, the classic and traditional bluegrass music of Bill Monroe, Flatt and Scruggs, and the Stanley Brothers...tunes that many "bluegrass musicians" seem to have forgotten.

Such was the birth of The Last Whippoorwill Band, a name spun out from the title of Bill Monroe's "The First Whippoorwill". The band has discovered that many folks truly appreciate the old tunes, and for many young listeners, the classic sound is a whole new experience.

The Whippoorwills have entertained traditional bluegrass music lovers and others all around the tri-state area and continue to expand horizons as the band joins the festival circuit in the third decade of the 21st Century.
